Support bigger files better (via caching?)
I want to get rid of all my company's network drives and only use Netdocuments, but I can't because Netdocuments can't handle big files fast enough. (I'm on fiber-optic cable... show more
The reason is that one department in the company works with large files (5MB to 20MB). Using Netdocuments is such a pain for them (slowness and freezing) that I have to let them use Network Drives.
Now I have to support Network Drives, plus maintain version control between them and Netdocuments.
I noticed that JungleDisk has some sort of caching feature that allows documents to almost upload almost immediately (from the users' perspective).
There could also be a local server solution that integrates with Netdocuments in the cloud to allow for speed up. Imagine an admin just configuring a local server or drive to Netdocuments and it automatically acts as a cache so users don't experience delay.

Option to Default to Check in As New Version
When checking-in a file on Netdocuments, the system defaults to "Check In" always overwriting the current file. If the user forgets to "Check in as New Version" then changes can be easily written over and lost forever... show more
How about a switch that allows admins to select at the system or cabinet level to set the default behavior to "Check in as New Version" with the user able to override this with "Check in overwriting old version."?
There are good reasons for not wanting to "Check in as new verson" each time, such as size and speed, but for my company I'd like to use Netdocs for version control and currently it's too risky.

Show number of files in folders
Next to each folder in the navigation pane, show the number of files inside the folder.
I'll explain:
This feature would be amazing if your organization has formal policies for organizing documents for each new project/product/case/account/thing... show more
My organization has a vast tree structure that tells us where to file documents as they come in for each new thing.
However, we use a 6-page print-out sitting on our desk to help us remember where documents should go. There are 2 possible solutions I see to eliminating the physical print-out:
1. Create a plug-in to Netdocuments that allows users to drag files over a nested drop-down menu that includes the company's entire filing structure (updatable by an admin).
When the users releases the file over a given proposed folder, Netdocs creates the folder structure indicated by the drop-downs and puts the file where the user wants it.
-OR-
2. An admin can create the entire folder tree structure that the company uses to file documents for one project/product/case/account/thing, but make sure it has no documents. Keep this as your TEMPLATE.
Whenever a new workspace/folder/thing is created for the company, drag the TEMPLATE tree structure into the workspace/folder. This will create the entire structure in place, but the problem will be browsing. Users will now have to open every single folder to see if anything is inside.
BUT, if this here feature was implemented, "Show number of files in folders" then it would be easy to find documents in the vast tree: just follow the numbers to the documents.

Add file size to column attribute
Currently the only way to know the size of a file from within Netdocuments is to add "Info" as a column attribute via "Define display format" and then click "Info" and look at size... show more
It would be nice to be able to see file sizes.
Merged from afriedland's idea: New File Attribute
I would like to see a new file attribute option for document size (i.e. KB). I often identify documents by file size and can quickly verify a file name is not what I am looking for just looking at the file size. Having the option to sort by file size is important as well.

Orphan Finder
Currently there is no way in netdocs to find files that have been un-filed or "lost" unless you know the name of the file.
I propose some way for users to be able to search for documents which have been accidentally un-filed and exist in no folder and have no tag... show more
As an admin, I have had several users tell me they have lost files and we know they are in Netdocs but I have absolutely no way to find them.
